I just love this photograph that I took of some woodland in the grounds of Powis Castle. The mist rising from Llyn Du really makes this image in my opinion, not only helping to add depth, but really separating the foreground trees and that beautiful ‘ocean of red’. I’ve been visiting the grounds a lot more often than I usually do with the national lockdown in place. This has forced me to think differently about my photography, looking for colours and detail as opposed to grand scenes and dramatic lighting. I think it has done nothing but aid my development as a photographer and added more strings to a bow that will never run out of room. Growing up, I used to look at some copies of Henry H. Parker pieces that we had on our walls. He specialised in picturesque pastoral landscapes of classic English countryside scenes. I can’t help but feel as though this might have been inspired by those. Part of the collection of images that sparked my love for woodland photography and featured alongside an article in the Welsh Country magazine.
